Work at Skhillz Academy

You will alwaysknow whereyou stand.

Small groups, planning time counted as part of the job, and a page of your own that says what is outstanding before it costs you a class. Apply and you get an answer either way, with a reason, from a person.

Why here

Three things that are true.

  • Small groups, and time to prepare for them

We teach in small groups across a virtual microschool, tutoring, camps and adult education. Planning time is part of the job rather than what you do after it.

  • Nothing about your standing is a surprise

Your own page shows what is outstanding, what is about to expire, and what it stops you doing. Nobody finds out they are blocked by being taken off a class.

  • The rules apply upward, not just downward

Every requirement on this page applies to the owner as well as to a first-week tutor. Nobody verifies their own clearance, at any level, and the system will not let them.

  • Virtual Microschool Teacher

$35 to $50 an hourProvisional while compensation is approved. It may change before any offer is made.

    EmployeeVirtualcloses October 11, 2026

The Virtual Microschool Teacher provides live, personalized, standards-informed instruction in a small-school setting built around real relationships, strong academic foundations and the STREAME framework. Teachers do more than deliver a lesson on video: they plan, teach, assess, document, communicate, collaborate, and help learners connect what they know across subjects and into the world.

  • College and Career Pathway Advisor

$32 to $45 an hourProvisional while compensation is approved. It may change before any offer is made.

    EmployeeVirtualcloses October 11, 2026

The College and Career Pathway Advisor helps teenagers and adults understand their options, organize decisions, and finish the practical next steps: college, credentials, apprenticeships, scholarships, work. The advisor uses the coded, AI-free My Next Step tools to organize what a learner said. A person, not an algorithm, reads it and builds the plan with them.

    EmployeeVirtualcloses October 11, 2026

This instructor supports adults strengthening academic foundations, preparing for high-school equivalency, returning to education, or moving toward college, training or work. Adult learners arrive with experience, responsibilities, strengths and history. The instructor is expected to teach with respect, structure, clarity and practical relevance.

No contact with children. Back office work with no access to learners or their records. What that means for the checks

  • Managed In-Home Teacher

$35 to $55 an hourProvisional while compensation is approved. It may change before any offer is made.

    EmployeeIn personcloses October 11, 2026

The Managed In-Home Teacher provides personalized instruction to one child or a small sibling group in the family's home, under a Skhillz-managed service. This is a professional teaching assignment. It is not childcare, household management, therapy, medical support, transport, or general help around the house. The scope, curriculum, schedule, supervision, documentation and boundaries are written down before anybody starts.

Alone with children. One to one tutoring, transport, or anything where they are the only adult. What that means for the checks

  • Mathematics Intervention Tutor

$28 to $38 an hourProvisional while compensation is approved. It may change before any offer is made.

    EmployeeVirtualcloses October 11, 2026

The Mathematics Intervention Tutor helps learners move past memorising steps toward understanding quantities, relationships, operations, representations and problem-solving. Instruction starts with the learner's current reasoning and addresses the concept underneath a repeated error rather than the error itself.

  • Reading Intervention Tutor

$28 to $38 an hourProvisional while compensation is approved. It may change before any offer is made.

    EmployeeVirtualcloses October 11, 2026

The Reading Intervention Tutor helps learners strengthen the specific reading skills behind comprehension, fluency, accuracy, vocabulary, written response and academic confidence. The tutor begins with evidence: what the learner can do, where the breakdown happens, and which next skill is most useful. Not simply more reading.

  • Test Preparation Tutor

$30 to $42 an hourProvisional while compensation is approved. It may change before any offer is made.

    EmployeeVirtualcloses October 11, 2026

Skhillz Test Preparation Tutors help learners understand tested content, read question types, practice responsible strategy, manage pacing, and use their own performance evidence to decide what to study next. The role asks for more than knowing the test: you have to be able to teach the mathematics, reading, English, writing or science reasoning underneath your approved exam areas.

  • Academic Tutor, K-12

$25 to $35 an hourProvisional while compensation is approved. It may change before any offer is made.

EmployeeIn person and virtualcloses October 10, 2026

Skhillz Academic Tutors provide focused instruction to K-12 learners who need help strengthening skills, understanding current coursework, rebuilding confidence, or preparing for the next academic step. This is not homework supervision. Tutors use learner information, materials, observation and progress evidence to work out what is getting in the way, and teach toward the underlying need.

    What the post needs

Demonstrated knowledge of the subjects and grade bands you select in the application. Experience teaching, tutoring or supporting learners in a structured setting. Able to explain clearly and respond to a learner's misunderstanding. Strong written communication and documentation you keep up with. Reliable technology and a private place to teach, for virtual work.

Before you meet a learner

What we check, and how long it takes.

This list is read live from the system that actually enforces it, so it cannot drift away from what we do. Start the slow ones early: they are the reason a start date moves.

  • Criminal background check

    Blocks assignmentRemoves access

Cleared before any contact with a learner.

It has to be verified before your first session. Renewed every 12 months.

  • Child abuse clearance

    Blocks assignmentRemoves access

Cleared before any contact with a learner.

It has to be verified before your first session. Renewed every 12 months.

  • Mandated reporter training

    Blocks assignmentRemoves access

Everyone who works with children must know what to do and when.

It has to be verified before your first session. Renewed every 12 months.

  • CPR and first aid

    Blocks assignment

    For anyone working in person.

You have 60 days from your first day to get it. For in-person work it has to have at least 15 days left on it, so a renewal cannot be left to the last week. Renewed every 12 months.

Also on file, and not in the way of a start date

  • References checked
  • Signed agreement
  • Tax form on file
  • Safeguarding training

A requirement marked as removing access does exactly that. If it lapses, your account closes to learner records the same day, your classes are covered rather than canceled, and families are told only that there is a change of instructor. It comes back the moment somebody verifies the renewal.

Nobody verifies their own clearance, including the person who runs the organization. Somebody else records it and their name goes against it, which is the entire point of keeping it.

Where a requirement allows a grace period, it applies to general items only. Nothing that has to be current before contact with a child, or before in-person work, can be covered by one.

CPR and First Aid work differently by setting. If your work is online only, and the role has been marked eligible, you may be given up to 60 days to complete it. Anyone assigned to in-person work satisfies it before the assignment rather than after, and renewal escalation starts at least 15 days before it expires, so it cannot be left to the last week. Taking on any in-person duty ends the online-only allowance immediately.

How hiring runs

Five steps, and an answer either way.

  1. You applyA short form. We do not ask for a cover letter written to impress anybody.
  2. Somebody reads itA person, not a filter. If two weeks pass without a word from us, write and say so.
  3. We talkA conversation about the work, with the same questions asked of everybody for the role.
  4. We decide, and tell youIncluding when the answer is no, with a reason. Everybody gets an answer.
  5. Clearance, then a start dateAn offer may come before screening finishes. It is conditional: it does not set a start date, and it does not authorize learner contact, a class assignment or access to learner records. Those wait for verification.

Nothing open that fits

Tell us anyway.

Posts open at odd times: a class fills, a family asks for a subject nobody covers, a camp week grows. The Skhillz talent community is how you find out when one does. It is our own list, for our own openings, and we do not pass it to anybody. Joining is not an application and does not put you ahead of anyone: when a role opens it is posted and you apply like everybody else.
