You can choose a teacher who remains employed and supported by Skhillz, or ask us to conduct the search so that you can hire and manage the teacher directly.
Option one
Managed In-Home Teacher Service
You focus on your child. We manage the educator relationship.
Under the managed option, your family contracts with Skhillz Academy for in-home educational services. The teacher remains a Skhillz employee, and you pay Skhillz monthly in advance.
We manage the educator's employment, payroll, applicable employer obligations, compliance, support, and any benefits for which the educator is eligible. We also remain available to support communication, monitor the assignment, maintain applicable service records, and address concerns.

Teacher Search and Placement
We conduct the search. You make the hire.
Maybe your family already has household employment systems in place. Maybe you work with a family office or payroll provider. Or maybe you simply want to employ and manage your child's teacher directly.
Skhillz can help define the role, recruit qualified candidates, conduct our screening process, and introduce educators who align with your family's stated needs.
When you select and hire a teacher, the educator becomes your employee, not a Skhillz employee. Your family assumes responsibility for wages, payroll, taxes, insurance, supervision, scheduling, workplace requirements, and all other employer responsibilities.
Skhillz charges a search and placement fee for this service. Following placement, our involvement ends except for administrative closeout and any limited replacement guarantee specifically included in your written agreement.
This option may be right for you if you are prepared to serve as the educator's employer and want professional help conducting the search.

We also set clear boundaries so that everyone understands the position. Unless a written service plan or employment offer expressly says otherwise, an in-home teacher is not being engaged as a:
- Nanny
- Babysitter
- Housekeeper
- Personal assistant
- Household manager
- Family driver
- Medical provider
- Therapist
- Unrestricted caregiver outside scheduled educational responsibilities
Any requested transportation, travel, supervision, meal-related assistance, personal care or additional household responsibility must be disclosed and approved before service or employment begins.
The teacher's primary responsibility is education.

Because the service takes place in the family home, availability depends on location, schedule, subjects, grade level, specialization, compensation and the qualified educator pool in the area. Some assignments can be filled from our existing network. Others need targeted local recruitment.
State requirements also differ. The educational structure you have chosen for your child can affect teacher credential requirements, attendance, assessments, records, scholarship eligibility, and the legal responsibilities of the parent, of Skhillz, or of a family hiring directly.
Do not assume we cannot serve your area because you do not see your city listed.
Tell us where you are and what your child needs. We will tell you honestly whether we can responsibly support it, and if we cannot yet, whether that is weeks or months.
Frequently asked questions
What this is
Is an in-home teacher the same as a tutor?
Not necessarily. A tutor usually provides limited subject support. An in-home teacher may lead recurring instruction, implement curriculum, manage part or all of the school day, assess progress, maintain records, and coordinate several subjects. We will help determine the level of support your family needs.
Does my child have to be homeschooled?
No. We may support children enrolled in virtual schools, online programs, private schools, public schools, alternative programs, or temporary educational arrangements. The teacher's responsibilities must align with the child's enrollment status and applicable law.
What is the difference between managed service and placement?
With managed service, Skhillz employs and pays the educator while your family purchases recurring educational services from Skhillz. With placement, Skhillz finds and screens candidates, but your family hires, pays, supervises, and manages the educator directly.
Can I switch from placement to managed service, or the other way around?
A change may be possible, but it is not automatic. The educator, family, Skhillz, pricing, employment structure, and state requirements must all be reviewed. A new agreement and onboarding process may be required.
Can we hire a managed Skhillz teacher directly?
Not outside the terms of the family service agreement and the educator's employment obligations. Managed-service pricing reflects Skhillz's recruitment, employment, payroll, compliance, support, and ongoing responsibilities. Any direct-hire conversion must be approved in writing and may require a conversion or placement fee.
The teacher
Are all teachers state certified?
No. Some assignments require a currently licensed teacher; others may be appropriately served by an educator with different qualifications. Skhillz will explain the recommended requirements and disclose the credentials of candidates presented for the assignment.
Are educators background screened?
Educators approved to work in family homes must satisfy the screening requirements applicable to their role and service model. Requirements may vary by assignment, jurisdiction, funding source, and applicable law.
Who chooses the teacher?
Skhillz identifies potential matches, but the family has an opportunity to meet a recommended educator before approving the match or making a direct hire. Skhillz also retains the right not to approve a managed assignment that does not meet its employment, safety, or service standards.
What happens if the teacher is not the right fit?
Managed families should contact Skhillz promptly so we can assess the issue and determine the appropriate support, correction, reassignment, or replacement process. Placement families receive only the replacement rights specifically stated in their search agreement.
Money
How do monthly managed payments work?
Managed service is billed in advance according to the service agreement. Before checkout, the family will see the recurring price, billing frequency, next charge date, cancellation method, and applicable refund or cancellation terms.
How does the placement fee work?
Placement pricing and payment triggers are disclosed before the search begins. Depending on the assignment, the family may pay a search engagement fee, a placement completion fee, a fixed fee, or a percentage-based fee. The written search agreement controls.
Can scholarship or education savings funds be used?
Possibly. Eligibility depends on the state, program, provider requirements, educator qualifications, approved expense category, and selected service. Skhillz cannot guarantee third-party approval or reimbursement.
How much does the service cost?
Pricing depends on location, schedule, number of children, grade level, subjects, educator qualifications, specialized needs, planning requirements, travel, and whether the family selects managed service or placement. We provide transparent pricing before the family commits.
In your home
Is the teacher responsible for childcare or household work?
Not unless those responsibilities are expressly evaluated, approved, and written into the applicable agreement. The teacher's primary role is education.
How quickly can a teacher start?
Timing depends on the location and complexity of the assignment. A specialized, full-time, travel, or hard-to-fill position may require targeted recruitment. We prioritize appropriate fit and required screening over rushing a teacher into a family's home.
