Attendance and Make-Up Policy
Lateness, cancellations, missed sessions, make-ups, technology failures, and what counts as attendance in the Virtual Microschool.
- Effective
- September 4, 2026
- Version
- 1.0
- When it applies
- For any program with scheduled sessions.
You agree to this before you pay, on an unticked box.
Regular attendance supports continuity, progress, safety, and responsible use of instructional time. This Policy applies to scheduled Skhillz Academy, LLC classes, tutoring, test preparation, Virtual Microschool instruction, events, and live programs.
1. General Responsibilities
Parents, guardians, adult learners, and institutional account holders must:
- Review the schedule and time zone
- Maintain accurate contact information
- Provide a suitable device, internet connection, and learning environment for virtual participation
- Notify Skhillz Academy of absences or foreseeable barriers
- Ensure minor learners attend and are appropriately supervised
- Follow the Code of Conduct and instructor directions
2. Arrival and Lateness
Learners should enter the virtual classroom several minutes early to test audio and video.
An instructor will ordinarily remain available for 15 minutes after an individual session’s scheduled start. A learner arriving after that period may be marked absent, and the session may be forfeited.
Late arrival does not extend the scheduled end time. Repeated lateness may lead to a conference, schedule change, support plan, or withdrawal.
3. Individual Tutoring and Appointments
Cancellation notice
Provide at least four hours’ notice before an individual tutoring, advising, assessment, or coaching session.
Late cancellation or no-show
A cancellation with less than four hours’ notice, failure to attend, or arrival more than 15 minutes late ordinarily results in forfeiture of the session. The session is charged and is not eligible for make-up.
Make-up limit
An eligible learner may receive no more than two make-up sessions during the applicable enrollment period unless the program agreement states a shorter period.
An approved make-up must occur within three weeks after the missed session or before the program ends, whichever occurs first. Make-ups depend on instructor availability and are not guaranteed at the learner’s preferred time.
4. Group Classes
Group classes continue at the scheduled time even when an individual learner is absent. Individual make-up sessions are not provided for missed group classes.
When available and authorized, Skhillz Academy may provide a recording, assignment, resource, office hour, or alternate asynchronous activity. Availability of an alternative is not guaranteed and does not convert the absence into attendance unless the program permits it.
5. Instructor Cancellation
Skhillz Academy and its instructors should provide at least four hours’ notice when practicable. When Skhillz Academy cancels an individual paid session, we will offer a rescheduled session, qualified substitute, asynchronous equivalent accepted by the family, account credit, or other appropriate remedy.
If an emergency prevents advance notice, the learner will not forfeit the session.
If Skhillz Academy cancels a group session, it may reschedule the group, provide an equivalent recorded or live lesson, adjust the calendar, or provide another remedy consistent with the enrollment agreement.
6. Technology Failure
Learner-side failure
The learner should attempt to reconnect and contact the instructor or support promptly. Ordinary learner-side device, software, power, or internet failure is treated as an absence, but Skhillz Academy may make a reasonable accommodation when circumstances permit.
Skhillz Academy or platform failure
When an instructor-side or platform-wide failure materially prevents instruction, Skhillz Academy will provide a reasonable substitute, such as:
- Rescheduled live instruction
- A recorded lesson prepared by the instructor
- An asynchronous assignment with feedback
- Written or video communication supporting completion
- A credit where no reasonable substitute is possible
7. Illness and Emergencies
Safety comes first. Do not attend when participation would be unsafe or materially interfere with recovery or others.
Skhillz Academy will make reasonable efforts to accommodate documented illness, emergency, bereavement, natural disaster, or comparable circumstance. Accommodation may include rescheduling, recording, alternate work, or deadline adjustment. A particular accommodation cannot be guaranteed when staffing, program design, or repeated absence makes it impracticable.
8. Virtual Microschool Attendance
Virtual Microschool learners must participate according to the published academic calendar, daily or weekly schedule, enrollment agreement, and applicable attendance law.
Attendance may be documented through:
- Presence in live instruction
- Participation in an authorized educational activity
- Completion of an approved recorded lesson
- Timely submission of required work
- Instructor contact or conference
- Other evidence authorized by the school
Watching a recording may substitute for live attendance only when the teacher or program authorizes it and the learner completes required participation evidence.
Parents and guardians remain responsible for compliance with compulsory-attendance obligations applicable to the child. Skhillz Academy will maintain enrollment and attendance records as required for its operating model.
Excused absences
Excused reasons may include illness, medical care, emergency, bereavement, religious observance, disability-related need, legal obligation, school-approved activity, or another reason accepted by the program.
Unexcused or unexplained absences
The program will attempt to contact the family after unexplained absence. Persistent nonattendance may result in:
- Written notice
- Parent or guardian conference
- Attendance-support or improvement plan
- Review of continued enrollment
- Administrative withdrawal and legally required reporting
As an internal intervention benchmark, five consecutive instructional days without verified participation or contact, or ten unexcused instructional days within a 90-calendar-day period, may trigger formal review. This benchmark does not replace a stricter legal, accreditation, scholarship, voucher, or enrollment requirement.
9. Adult Learners
Adult learners are responsible for their own attendance and communication. Repeated absence may affect completion, credentials, funding, or continued enrollment. Child-specific supervision rules do not apply, but all other program and conduct expectations do.
10. Accommodations
Disability-related attendance modifications may be requested through accessibility@skhillzacademy.org. Skhillz Academy will engage in an individualized process and will not penalize an absence or participation method when doing so would violate applicable law.
11. Time Zones and Calendar Changes
Schedules should identify the applicable time zone. The learner is responsible for adjusting for local time, daylight-saving changes, and travel. Skhillz Academy may adjust schedules with reasonable notice.
12. Records and Appeals
Attendance, cancellations, make-ups, and notices may be recorded in the portal. A family or adult learner may ask support@skhillzacademy.org to correct an error or review a decision within 10 business days after notice.
13. Contact
