- Schedule
- Sessions run weekday afternoons and early evenings, with some Saturday mornings. You give us the windows you can hold and we schedule inside them. Times are Eastern time.
- Hours
- Two to six hours a week to start, with more as your availability and enrollment allow.
- Starts
- Rolling. Sessions begin as soon as screening is verified and you are approved for your subjects and grade bands.
- Benefits
- This is a part time, as needed position and does not carry health, dental, vision, retirement or paid leave benefits. Paid sick leave is provided where state or local law requires it.
What is paid: Planning, preparing materials, writing session notes, required training, calibration and quality review meetings are all paid at your session rate. Skhillz does not ask for unpaid preparation or unpaid documentation.
The College and Career Pathway Advisor helps teenagers and adults understand their options, organize decisions, and finish the practical next steps: college, credentials, apprenticeships, scholarships, work. The advisor uses the coded, AI-free My Next Step tools to organize what a learner said. A person, not an algorithm, reads it and builds the plan with them.
What you would do
- Have learner-centered conversations about what comes next.
- Read My Next Step responses, goals, records, readiness and constraints.
- Help compare college, credential, trade, apprenticeship, military, entrepreneurship and direct-to-work options without treating one as better than the rest.
- Support research, application planning, scholarship readiness, resume work, interview preparation and follow-through as assigned.
- Keep pathway plans, notes, deadlines, permissions and follow-up accurate.
- Work properly with parents and guardians while keeping the learner's voice in it.
- Check sources, and be clear about where guidance ends and legal, financial, clinical or admissions authority begins.
What we need
- A degree, or an approved combination of relevant education and experience.
- Experience advising students, adult learners or job seekers.
- Knowledge of more than one postsecondary and workforce pathway.
- Strong research, organization, communication and documentation.
- Able to work respectfully across varied family, financial and academic circumstances.
What would help
- School counselling, college access, workforce development, adult education, higher education, career coaching or financial aid experience.
- A relevant graduate degree, certification or professional training.
- Experience with scholarships, credential research, apprenticeships or application advising.
Where the line is: Never guarantee admission, a scholarship, employment, a license or an income.
Before anybody starts
Direct contact with children. In rooms with children, so the full child-safety screening for this role, location and setting has to be verified before assignment.
Any offer made before screening and onboarding are finished is conditional. It does not authorize work, contact with a learner, a class assignment or access to learner information. A start date is confirmed only after every blocking requirement is complete and somebody else has verified it.
