- Schedule
- Sessions run weekday afternoons and early evenings, with some Saturday mornings. You give us the windows you can hold and we schedule inside them. Times are Eastern time.
- Hours
- Two to six hours a week to start, with more as your availability and enrollment allow.

- Rolling. Sessions begin as soon as screening is verified and you are approved for your subjects and grade bands.
- Benefits
- This is a part time, as needed position and does not carry health, dental, vision, retirement or paid leave benefits. Paid sick leave is provided where state or local law requires it.
What is paid: Planning, preparing materials, writing session notes, required training, calibration and quality review meetings are all paid at your session rate. Skhillz does not ask for unpaid preparation or unpaid documentation.
Skhillz Academic Tutors provide focused instruction to K-12 learners who need help strengthening skills, understanding current coursework, rebuilding confidence, or preparing for the next academic step. This is not homework supervision. Tutors use learner information, materials, observation and progress evidence to work out what is getting in the way, and teach toward the underlying need.
What you would do
- Deliver individual or small-group instruction in approved subjects and grade ranges.
- Read the learning plan, assessment information, assignments and family goals before teaching.
- Prepare lessons and materials for the learner's actual starting point.
- Explain a concept more than one way without lowering the goal.
- Use modeling, guided practice, independent practice, feedback and reflection.
- Keep attendance, session notes, progress evidence and follow-up accurate.
- Say when a learner's need falls outside your approved subject, grade or scope.
- Take part in required meetings, training, calibration and quality review.
What we need
- Demonstrated knowledge of the subjects and grade bands you select in the application.
- Experience teaching, tutoring or supporting learners in a structured setting.
- Able to explain clearly and respond to a learner's misunderstanding.
- Strong written communication and documentation you keep up with.
- Reliable technology and a private place to teach, for virtual work.
What would help
- A degree, or substantial progress toward a relevant one.
- Teaching, intervention, special education or subject-area experience.
- Experience with small-group virtual instruction.
- A teaching license, tutoring certification or subject credential.
What success looks like
Prepared instruction, learners who take part, accurate records, teaching that responds to what is in front of you, and evidence of movement toward the agreed goals. It is not defined by promising a grade or a score.
Before anybody starts
Direct contact with children. In rooms with children, so the full child-safety screening for this role, location and setting has to be verified before assignment.
Any offer made before screening and onboarding are finished is conditional. It does not authorize work, contact with a learner, a class assignment or access to learner information. A start date is confirmed only after every blocking requirement is complete and somebody else has verified it.
Technology: Reliable internet, a camera, and a quiet private space for virtual sessions.
