Attendance and satisfactory progress, adult programs
What attendance means in an adult program, how progress is reviewed, and what happens before anybody is withdrawn. Sponsored learners should read the last two rows: what we report to a sponsor is narrower than people expect.
- What one contact hour is
- 60 minutesScheduled instructional time attended. Ten contact hours is one continuing education unit, and that is what a certificate carries.
- What counts as attendance in an online session
- Being present and taking part in the scheduled session. Logging in and leaving the session running is not attendance, and we will say so rather than record an hour that was not taught.
- How long the instructor waits
- 15 minutesAfter that you may be marked absent. A late start does not extend the end of the session.
- Notice to cancel an individual appointment
- 4 hours
- Absence
- Tell us. A documented illness, emergency, bereavement or comparable circumstance is accommodated where we reasonably can, through rescheduling, a recording, alternate work or an adjusted deadline. An absence nobody hears about is the only kind we cannot work with.
- Make-up work
- Where a session cannot be repeated we offer equivalent work carrying the same hours, when the program design allows it. A group session is not repeated for one learner.
- How often progress is reviewed
- At the midpoint of the program and at the end, and at any point where attendance or progress puts completion at risk. A review is never the first time you hear there is a problem.
- Before anybody is withdrawn
- A conversation, then a written note of what has to change and by when, then a support plan. Withdrawal is the last step and never the first, and each step is recorded so you can see what was said.
- Appealing a decision
- In writing to support@skhillzacademy.org. Somebody other than the person who made the decision reviews it, and you get the reason in writing.
- What a sponsor is told
- Attendance, contact hours, enrollment status and completion. Not the content of your work, not what you said in a session, and nothing about your circumstances that you did not ask us to pass on.
- What attendance does to completion
- A certificate carries the hours actually attended. We do not issue hours that were not taught, which is the reason the certificate is worth anything to an employer.
A published term does not change in place. If a figure here changes, we publish a new version and the old one stays readable, because somebody agreed to it. Questions go to support@skhillzacademy.org or 888-429-5094.
