How it works

  1. Take the free ACT diagnostic.

One adaptive test, under an hour. Your child gets an estimated score range from 1 to 36 and the three skills to fix first.

    Start the free diagnostic

  2. The plan opens on three gap skills.

ACT Practice reads the diagnostic and starts your child on their three weakest skills. There is nothing to set up.

  3. Practice and track progress.

Your child works through skill practice and full practice tests. You get a report after every session, and the dashboard shows whether each gap is closing.

Skill practice: Median and Mean

MediumStatistics and Probability

The mean of 6 numbers is 21. When one of the numbers is removed, the mean of the remaining 5 numbers is 19. What number was removed?

  • A2
  • B20Your answer
  • C31Correct
  • D40

Not quite

What went wrong

You averaged the two means.

How to fix it

Work with totals: 6 × 21 = 126 and 5 × 19 = 95. The removed number is 126 − 95 = 31.

How to solve it

  1. The total of the 6 numbers is 6 × 21 = 126.
  2. The total of the remaining 5 is 5 × 19 = 95.
  3. The removed number is 126 − 95 = 31.

Correct answer: C. 31

Removing a number above the mean pulls the mean down, and 31 is the difference in totals.

One question from the Median and Mean skill, as it appears in skill practice after a wrong answer.

Parents follow progress

You see the same progress dashboard your child sees, for each child on your account. Every skill shows where it started on the diagnostic, where it is now, and whether the gap is closing.

  • The ACT as it runs now.English, Math and Reading make the composite, and Science is optional and scored on its own. Each section has its own clock.
  • You can see it working.A report after every session, and a dashboard that shows whether each gap is closing.
  • Easy to stop.A monthly plan cancels from your Billing page. Access stays open to the end of the month you paid for.

Questions

Does my child need the diagnostic first?

We recommend it. The free ACT diagnostic is what tells ACT Practice which three skills to start on. Without it, the plan is made from your child's first practice instead.

Is Science included?

Yes. Each practice ACT asks at the start whether to include Science, the way the real ACT now makes it optional. Science gets its own score and stays out of the composite. Skill practice covers all 10 Science skills.

How is the practice test scored?

Each section gets an estimated score from 1 to 36, and the composite is the average of English, Math and Reading. It is an estimate, and the official score depends on test day.

How does cancelling work?

A monthly plan has a "Manage or cancel" button at the top of your Billing page. Access stays open to the end of the month you paid for. The one year and six month plans are one payment and never renew, so there is nothing to cancel.

What happens when the plan ends?

Access closes on the end date shown on your Billing page. You are not charged again. You can buy a new plan whenever you like.

Can I buy for more than one child?

Yes. Each plan is for one child, and the plans page asks which child it is for. Each child gets their own plan, practice and dashboard, and you see all of them.

Does ACT Practice include the SAT?

No. ACT Practice opens the ACT, and SAT Practice opens the SAT. A student preparing for both can have both plans.

Who can buy ACT Practice?

A parent buys it for their child. An adult learner can buy it for themselves.
